This was Adam’s first orchestral work, originally performed in 2003 by the North
Warwickshire Chamber Orchestra. It is a piece in five movements, and comprises a
set of variations on a theme which is first heard at the beginning of the first movement.
The tempo of the piece is fast -
The piece is entitled “Unseen Pictures” because in many ways it is like film score without the pictures. There is no programme, the movements creating rather a mood or colour.
The first movement is bold and full of pomp, and the second movement is intimate, with a beautiful violin solo introduction.
The third movement is built on a 7/8 rhythm, giving an urgent, climactic feeling to the piece. The fourth movement then is an elegiac waltz, with the fifth movement wrapping things up with a quick succession of different variations.
